Commonwealth summit: Prince Charles says nations can learn from Canada on reconciliation

CA, 24 Jun 2022
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau continued his trip to Rwanda on Friday as the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting kicked off, with several sit-downs set to take place with leaders he wouldn't normally see at other summits like NATO and the G7.

During opening remarks, Prince Charles, who was attending in place of Queen Elizabeth II, spoke about Canada and said that the Commonwealth can learn from the country's efforts on reconciliation. "It seems to me there are lessons in this for our Commonwealth family," he said.

As David Akin reports, while some local press is already deeming the summit a success, there is a significant list of Commonwealth leaders missing.

Those missing government heads could be an issue for Trudeau's efforts to get a consensus among nations to denounce the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its subsequent impacts on food and supply chains.
