The Liberal Democrats have overturned a 24,000 Tory majority to win the Tiverton and Honiton by-election - an area traditionally loyal to the Tories.

A dramatic swing of almost 30% from the Conservatives to the Lib Dems saw candidate Richard Foord achieve a majority of 6,144 to win the Devon constituency.

Party leader Sir Ed Davey praised the "positive" result, but added that some voters may have used their ballots to send a message to Tory MPs that "it's time that Boris Johnson should go".
