Singapore’s total population grew 3.4 per cent between 2021-2022, while the number of Hong Kong residents dropped for the third consecutive year as the city struggled with an outflow of people. The city saw its largest decline in six decades, with 113,200 residents leaving in the same period. Strict Covid-19 restrictions may have contributed to the decline, according to the government while some analysts also cite the introduction of Hong Kong’s national security law as reason for the drop in residents.
