Russia said one of its military vessels chased away a U.S. naval destroyer that attempted to violate Russian territorial waters on Friday. Washington denied the statement. The Russian defense ministry said the crew of its anti-submarine vessel had radioed a warning to the destroyer USS Chafee. But the U.S. military said the destroyer was conducting routine operations in international waters and that all of its operations were in accordance with international law and custom. They admitted a Russian destroyer approached, but stressed that the two vessels were about 60 meters apart and that all interactions were safe and professional.
