A former minister has admitted that Boris Johnson’s proposals on second jobs would simply “uphold the existing rules”.
The Prime Minister yesterday attempted to head off more political pain by publishing a letter to the Speaker, in which he recommends adopting two proposals to restrict MPs’ second jobs.
His intervention came just as Sir Keir Starmer, the Labour leader, gave a press conference setting out his plan to “clean up politics” ahead of a vote curbing outside interests today.
