Canadian health officials still evaluating need for PCR test requirement for travel | FULL

CA, 15 Oct 2021
The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) is expected to provide an update on the latest on the COVID-19 pandemic on Friday morning.

The federal government is mulling handing responsibility for verifying passengers’ vaccination status to airport officers, rather than airlines — which hope to skip the headache.

Canadian carriers received three consultation papers from Transport Canada this week asking for feedback on putting an agency in charge of the proof-of-vaccine validation process, according to three sources who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

Meanwhile, fully vaccinated Canadians will be able to cross into the United States by land for leisure trips starting Nov. 8, the White House has said.

In a tweet Friday, White House assistant press secretary Kevin Munoz confirmed the date for the new border policy – a moment 20 months in the making.

“This announcement and date applies to both international air travel and land travel. This policy is guided by public health, stringent, and consistent.”
