Canada's deputy prime minister makes announcement | FULL
CA, 25 Nov 2021
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland was joined by Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion Minister Carla Qualtrough on Wednesday to make an announcement.
It comes amid reports that Freeland had served formal notice she intends to introduce a bill that would implement the government's plans to scale back COVID-19 benefits.
Last month, Freeland announced it was pulling the plug on several COVID-19 support programs but it had a "targeted" plan to support new benefits for hard-hit businesses and employees going into spring.
As the Liberals have returned with a minority government, they will need to get support from at least one other party in order to pass a bill for such programs.
