BC floods: Provincial government provides latest update on recovery efforts | FULL
CA, 04 Dec 2021
British Columbia government officials held a briefing on Friday to discuss the latest state of flooding in the province, and the ongoing repair and recovery work being done by emergency officials.
If water sampling tests are acceptable, the final group of Merritt, B.C. residents forced out of their homes by flooding on November 15th will be allowed to return on Sunday.
City officials say hard work reinforcing and rebuilding dikes to withstand rising river levels from a trio of storms was successful, and there wasn't any further flooding.
It's a different story in Abbotsford, where Mayor Henry Braun says officials are focusing on return-to-home plans for all displaced residents and the longer-term recovery of the community.
A trio of B.C. government ministers say the province is through the worst of weather that brought historic flooding and damage to the south coast.
But Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth says the devastation, and clean-up, are just beginning to be understood.
