Nova Scotia wildfire: Premier, emergency officials provide update on fast-moving fire | LIVE
CA, 29 May 2023
Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston along with emergency officials are expected to provide an update Monday afternoon on a fast-moving wildfire that was discovered burning on Sunday afternoon.
While no injuries have been reported, thousands have had to be evacuated and a number of homes in the Tantallon and Hammonds Plains areas have been destroyed or are at risk of damage.
Schools have been shut down and a local state of emergency has been declared for the communities affected by the fire, which continues to burn out of control.
"We understand that wind direction is changing - the wind is now from the North - which is going to move this fire back, backward in the direction it was moving yesterday," Halifax Deputy Fire Chief David Meldrum said earlier in the day.
Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston posted on social media Sunday night that water bombers had arrived from New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador after 8 p.m. to help take on the out-of-control wildfire.
