Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, is on the brink of joining the race to be the Republican nominee in next year's Presidential election.

The 44-year-old former Navy Lieutenant is expected to announce that he will will likely compete against Donald Trump to be the Republican 2024 candidate.

His anti-lockdown, pro-life and low tax governorship has turned him into a Republican party heavyweight, with Florida having shifted from a swing state into a party stronghold under his leadership.

He has been lauded for his 'anti-woke' policies that have seen abortion rights curtailed, death penalty rules relaxed, concealed carry restrictions removed and the introduction of the 'Don't Say Gay' bill banning schools from teaching children about sexual orientation.
