Foreign interference: Poilievre speaks after Johnston says public inquiry not needed | LIVE
CA, 24 May 2023
Canada's Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre is expected to speak on Tuesday after special rapporteur David Johnston said a public inquiry into allegations of foreign election interference in Canadian elections is not needed, but public hearings should be held as part of his own mandate.
Previously, Poilievre has said Johnston's role was a "fake job" and that he had sent a letter to him asking how he could independently investigate the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, of which Johnston had been a member.
81-year-old former governor general Johnston made the recommendation Tuesday after being given two months to do so by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau back in March.
