The G7 or Group of Seven nations – the United States, Japan, Germany, Britain, France, Canada and Italy – recently gathered in the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The group took up a variety of issues, including economic growth, sensitive technologies, the Ukraine conflict, food security and stepping up engagement with developing countries. Some are concerned that Japan, as the chair of this year's summit, had taken up interest in military alliances, which could fuel regional tensions. Although the G7 was founded in the 1970s to discuss global economic issues, there are worries the G7 may stray into military confrontation.
