Adrift and dying: 150 refugees feared lost at sea

Telegraph, 23 Dec 2022
At least 12 Rohingya have died aboard a boat stranded off India’s Andaman Islands, according to the vessel’s captain, with “many more” fatalities feared as activists said they had been unable to contact the boat since December 18.

Earlier in November, more than 150 Rohingya asylum seekers had boarded a boat in Bangladesh, near the sprawling refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, seeking safe passage to Malaysia.

But, their engine broke on December 4 and they have since been at the mercy of the sea, drifting for weeks without food or water.
