Indonesia: New capital in Borneo jungle risks ‘environmental disaster’ • FRANCE 24 English

Indonesia is building an entirely new capital city in the heart of the Borneo jungle, which environmental activists say risks furthering deforestation and increasing pollution in the richly biodiverse habitat. The new city, called Nusantara, is due to replace Jakarta as the country’s capital in 2024 and is forecast to be home to nearly 2 million people by 2045.
