A private funeral is set to be held Wednesday for Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Const. Grzegorz (Greg) Pierzchala in his hometown of Barrie, Ont.

The officer's family will be joined by members of the OPP, other police services and first responders, Canadian Armed Forces members, and officials including Premier Doug Ford.

While the funeral is not open to the public, an in-person broadcast is set to be held in Haldimand County, where the 28-year-old constable was based with the police force.

Pierzchala was shot dead last week in an ambush attack when he was responding to a call for a vehicle in a ditch west of Hagersville, Ont. on Dec. 27.

The two suspects wanted in connection to his death have been arrested and each faces a first-degree murder charge.
