Human Rights Watch called on Asean chair Indonesia on January 12, 2023, to resolve the crisis in Myanmar. Relations between the country’s military government and the regional bloc have been strained since the ruling junta seized power in a coup in 2021. The rights group also raised concerns about the Myanmar military’s conflict with the armed Arakan Army, saying that fighting along the Bangladesh border has endangered Rohingya refugees and Bangladesh civilians.
