Nigeria: Fishermen that trade by barter instead of using money
Al Jazeera, 20 Jan 2023
The system of bartering for goods instead of paying cash remains alive and well in parts of Nigeria.
It is practised mainly by fishing communities in the south of the country.
The introduction of banknotes has done little to change the centuries-old tradition in local markets, where seafood is still exchanged for goods like cassava, vegetables, soap and oil.
Al Jazeera's Ahmed Idris reports from a market in Cross River State, Nigeria.
