World malaria day: In India, Odisha state's successful anti-malaria policy • FRANCE 24 English
FRANCE24, 25 Apr 2023
While more than 600,000 people die at the hands of malaria each year, some countries seem to be on their way to eradicating this disease. India accounted for only 2% of global cases in 2021, but carried a heavy load of 80% of cases in Southeast Asia. The government has set itself the goal of eradicating this infectious disease by 2030. The South Asian giant has halved the number of contaminations in less than two decades. The symbol of this successful anti-malaria policy: the rural state of Odisha, in the east of the country, as our team on the ground reports.
