Guardian, 23 Apr 2023
The UK foreign secretary has said that the government has evacuated diplomatic staff and their families from Sudan. When he was asked why diplomatic staff and their families were being given priority treatment, James Cleverly said: 'The diplomats that were working in the British embassy in Khartoum have been unable to discharge their functions because of the violence in that city.'
Cleverly also called on British nationals to register with the government to ease evacuation efforts and urged the belligerent parties to commit to a ceasefire and end the violence.
