Taiwan's coast guard released video of a tense standoff with a Chinese military vessel on Saturday, as Beijing began three days of military exercises around the island.

In video released by the Taiwan Ocean Affairs Council, coast guard officers were seen following the Chinese warship and issuing a warning for it to leave over a communication device.

A Taiwanese military vessel was seen later, with a coast guard officer heard saying it was around three nautical miles apart from the Chinese warship.

Beijing proceeded with a second day of drills around Taiwan on Sunday. The island's defence ministry reporting it was monitoring the movement of China's missile forces, as the US said it was watching too.
