North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been shown on state media reviewing “frontline attack plans” against the US and South Korea. During what was described as a high-level military meeting on April 11, 2023, Kim also discussed expanding the country's war deterrent. Pyongyang has also not been answering a military hotline connecting it with Seoul since April 7, 2023. The regime is reportedly angered by a series of drills conducted in the area by South Korea, the US and Japan. North Korea has said the drills are bringing the region to the “brink of nuclear war”.
