Junior doctors' demand for 35% pay rise is 'not fair or reasonable', says health secretary
Guardian, 12 Apr 2023
The health secretary, Steve Barclay, has said the demands for pay put forth by the British Medical Association (BMA) to stop industrial action taken by junior doctors are 'not fair or reasonable.' The BMA's proposal calls for a 35% salary increase to compensate for the 15-years of below-inflation wage hikes. The association argues the decline in pay has resulted in a shortage of qualified medical personnel and an inability to retain those currently employed. Junior doctors in England have announced a four-day strike, which began on Tuesday
