Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's brother Alexandre (Sacha) Trudeau, who is involved with the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, is scheduled to testify before a foreign interference committee hearing on Wednesday.

He accepted a parliamentary committee’s invitation to explain why he arranged to receive a controversial donation from China to the foundation bearing his father’s name. He is set to make an appearance for two hours before the committee to discuss why he negotiated and signed a deal to receive $200,000 from Chinese billionaire Zhang Bin in 2016.

The foundation ultimately received $140,000 and reimbursed it in recent weeks amid the controversy around the possible links to Beijing’s alleged attempts to interfere in the last two Canadian elections.

Speaking to reporters in New York City, the prime minister said his brother has been involved in the foundation for years and will answer the questions MPs ask of him. "It's my brother," Trudeau said. "I love him very much but he does his things and I do mine."
