Starmer accuses Tories of using taxpayers' money like a 'casino chip'

Sir Keir Starmer used his first question to ask Rishi Sunak: "Does the Prime Minister know how many mortgage payers are paying higher rates since the Tory Party crashed the economy last Autumn?"

Mr Sunak said that the Tories' "record on home ownership is crystal clear" with 90 per cent of first time buyers now paying no stamp duty at all.

He also said that the Government's policies had resulted last year in the highest number of first time buyers in 20 years.

Sir Keir said the answer to his original question was 850,000. The Labour leader claimed the Tories had used the public's money like a "a casino chip".

But Mr Sunak said Labour's plans for the economy would just mean "more debt".
