Beijing denounces US and South Korea plans for nuclear submarine

Washington and Seoul announced a bilateral framework to counter Pyongyang, which includes plans for a US nuclear ballistic missile submarine to visit South Korea. The “Washington Declaration” was announced on April 26, 2023, after a meeting between US President Joe Biden and visiting South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol. The document also announced the creation of a US-South Korea nuclear consultative group to support extended deterrence to counter threats from North Korea.
