PSAC strike: Poilievre, Singh critical of Trudeau for letting public service workers walk off job
CA, 20 Apr 2023
In Wednesday's question period in Ottawa's House of Commons, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh criticized the Trudeau government for letting the situation get to the point where public service workers from the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), including employees of the Canada Revenue Agency, have gone on strike.
More than 155,000 PSAC members, including 35,000 workers in the union’s tax unit, went on strike Wednesday after failing to reach a deal on a new agreement with the government.
PSAC set a deadline of 9 p.m. eastern Tuesday to strike a deal, but union leaders said their issues at the bargaining table “have still not been addressed.” However, those talks are ongoing, both sides say.
During question period, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau insisted he's ready to negotiate at the bargaining table.
