China’s embassy in Sudan issued a “high alert” notice on April 17, 2023, warning Chinese citizens in the country about growing violence as the nation’s capital Khartoum entered a third day. The northeast African country has been caught up in deadly fighting between Sudan's army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The conflict has forced US embassy staff to shelter in place and linked to a reported assault of the EU ambassador to Sudan at his residence. Political analysts say fighting between rival military factions for control of the country is raising fears of a nationwide civil war.
