In a century-old workshop in northwestern Malaysia, Choo Yew Choon has been busy with his family business of building pedicabs since the late 1980s. He is said to be the last trishaw maker on Penang island, located 330km north of the capital Kuala Lumpur. The 66-year-old has witnessed the slow demise of trishaws as a means of transport in the country. Now, he plans to retire in three to four years as both new orders, and his energy, decline.
