Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has arrived in China for a visit that she hopes will rebalance Germany's relationship. She is expected to discuss the war in Ukraine, pushing Beijing to help to end the conflict.
Baerbock is also due to discuss tension over Taiwan with Chinese officials. Beijing staged military drills around the island earlier this week. China's warships and fighter jets simulated blockades and attacks on Taiwan as part of the drills. Beijing claims the self-governing territory as its own and has not ruled out using force to bring the island under mainland control.
