Indiana industrial fire: Officials provide update on the toxic blaze in Richmond | LIVE
CA, 13 Apr 2023
Officials are expected to provide an update on Thursday regarding an industrial fire that broke out in a recycling facility, with mounds of plastic, in Richmond, Ind., on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials have said the blaze and toxic smoke are expected to burn for a few days. When plastic burns, it can release a host of toxic chemicals like dioxins and other carcinogens that are harmful to human health.
A half-mile radius around the facility, home to about 2,000 people, was evacuated as a thick, black column of smoke rose from the site. There has been no word on when the evacuation orders will be lifted.
