Question period in Canada's House of Commons in Ottawa will continue the debate after a Chinese diplomat was expelled from Canada for allegedly making threats toward Conservative MP Michael Chong.

Ottawa declared Toronto-based diplomat Zhao Wei “persona non grata” just minutes after the House wrapped up debate on Monday where the Conservatives and the NDP both demanded the Liberal government remove Wei from Canada.

“The diplomat needs to go back to Beijing and it needs to happen now. Will they do it today?” Conservative MP Melissa Lantsman demanded during the debate.

“This is a decision we took seriously, we took with careful consideration, in order to do the right thing and expel the Chinese diplomat. We understand there is retaliation, but we will not be intimidated and we will continue to do everything necessary to keep our Canadians protected from foreign interference,” Trudeau said Tuesday.
