Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is expected to hold a press conference Monday on border security, but is likely to face questions following a shooting at a Allen, Texas outlet mall that left at least eight people dead. He will also face questions after eight people were killed when the driver of a vehicle plowed it into a crowd of migrants on Sunday.

The shooting at a Dallas-area outlet mall occurred after a gunman opened fire, before being killed by a police officer.

The shooting follows another in Cleveland barely a week earlier, when a man fatally shot five people after a neighbour asked him to stop firing his weapon while a baby slept.

Police did not immediately provide details about the victims at Allen Premium Outlets, a sprawling outdoor shopping centre, but witnesses reported seeing children among them.

An Allen Police Department officer was at the mall on an unrelated call when he heard the shots and responded, firing on and killing the gunman. Police say they believe the shooter acted alone.

The incident in Brownsville, Texas occurred outside a centre that serves homeless people in a city near the border with Mexico.
