Pakistan’s supreme court ordered the release of former prime minister Imran Khan from custody on May 11, 2023. The top court declared Khan's arrest “invalid” and ruled that legal proceedings against him would be reversed. The order came two days after Khan was detained on a graft allegation that sparked violent and deadly protests by his supporters across the country.
