Officials in Alberta are expected to provide an update on Sunday afternoon about the wildfire situation in the province.

According to local forecasters the day before, the region was expecting a front to move into the province, which "should bring much-needed cooler temperatures, humidity and even rain."

As of Saturday morning, Alberta Wildfire reported 96 wildfires are burning across the province — 90 of which are in the forest protection area — and 28 are out of control.

The fires have destroyed or damaged 275 buildings across the province, including homes, businesses, outbuildings and other structures as they blazed a path of destruction ten times the size of the Calgary area.

Alberta Emergency Management Agency executive director Colin Blair said he couldn’t get into the details of when and where buildings were lost, adding local communities are still informing property owners.
