Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said on Sunday that having Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky join leaders of the G7 and partners in Hiroshima “sends a powerful message”.

At the G7 summit, leaders of the world's most powerful democracies have tightened sanctions meant to punish Moscow and change the course of its 15-month invasion of Ukraine.

Sunak said that the UK will train Ukrainian pilots starting this summer and thanked US president Joe Biden's support to provide F-16 jets.

"We know that Ukraine must not only win the war, but win a just and lasting peace,” he told reporters.

World leaders have faced a high-stakes balancing act in Hiroshima as they look to address a raft of global worries demanding urgent attention.
