Qatar has been fighting off persistent accusations of worker abuse, homophobia, sexism, racism and corruption in the twelve years after football's governing body, FIFA, awarded them with the World Cup. Front and center are harrowing accounts of exploitation of thousands of mostly South Asian migrant workers, suffering to produce the glittering new stadiums, hotels, roads and airports in place to welcome an expected 1.2 million visitors.
