UN speaks about ongoing unrest in Iran over human rights | LIVE
CA, 27 Oct 2022
United Nations Special Rapporteur Javaid Rehman holds a press conference on the human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran on Thursday as unrest continues in the country following the death of Mahsa Amini while in custody of the country's morality police in September.
This past weekend, anti-government protests erupted at several universities in Tehran amid heavy security. The protests in the country began at first about the country's mandatory hijab, but have grown as a challenge to the Islamic Republic.
Amini, the 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian woman who died after falling into a coma in police custody, was held for apparently not wearing her hijab properly according to the rigidly enforced Islamic Penal Code.
