A 150-year-old pedestrian bridge in western India collapsed as nearly 500 people were celebrating a religious festival on and around it. At least 134 people were killed in the incident, which happened on October 30, 2022. The suspension bridge over the Machchhu river, which is around 200km (120 miles) west of Gujarat’s main city, Ahmedabad, had only reopened several days earlier after months of repairs.
