A Russian yacht docked at South Korea’s southeastern port city of Pohang on October 13, 2022, was among four such vessels that have arrived carrying mostly young men. Thousands of men have left Russia to avoid being called up to fight with Moscow’s invasion forces in Ukraine under last month’s military mobilisation. Russians are in general allowed to enter the country without a visa as long as they obtain prior approval. However, South Korean authorities rejected most of the entry requests, citing “unclear” travel purposes and a lack of documents.
