NATO's Stoltenberg and Turkish foreign minister speak amid chief's visit to Turkey | LIVE

CA, 04 Nov 2022
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will hold a joint media availability with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu Thursday during a three-day trip to the country where it's expected he will press Turkey on ratifying Sweden and Finland's bids to join the military alliance.

It comes as Finland's Prime Minister urges Hungary and Turkey to approve her country and neighbouring Sweden's bids to join NATO. The two Nordic countries asked to join the military alliance in May, prompted by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Hungary and Turkey are the last two NATO members who need to give consent to their applications.

Stoltenberg's trip to Turkey also comes after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday that they'd been informed by Russia that the deal for a humanitarian grain corridor would "continue in the same way as before.

The Russian defence ministry confirmed this news, saying they agreed to continue carrying out its role in the deal after receiving written guarantees from Kyiv that Ukraine would not use the sea corridor for military actions against Moscow.
