Rishi Sunak será el nuevo primer ministro de Gran Bretaña

Rishi Sunak ganó la contienda para ser líder del Partido Conservador y se convertirá en el próximo primer ministro de Gran Bretaña, el tercero este año.
El exjefe del Tesoro será el primer líder británico que no es blanco y enfrenta la tarea de estabilizar su partido y el país en un momento de turbulencia económica y política.
Su única rival, Penny Mordaunt, aceptó la derrota y se retiró el lunes.
Como líder del partido gobernante, reemplazará como primera ministra a Liz Truss, quien renunció la semana pasada después de 45 días en el cargo.
Sunak perdió frente a Truss en la elección anterior, pero ahora los conservadores lucen ansiosos por tener un mando estable en momentos de altos precios de alimentos y combustibles y la posibilidad de una recesión. Sundak guió la economía británica durante la pandemia y recibió elogios por el apoyo financiero que otorgó a trabajadores despedidos y negocios en quiebra.
Sunak, de 42 años, recibirá la solicitud formal del rey Carlos III para formar gobierno. Pasará a ser primer ministro en una ceremonia de transición política con Truss el lunes o el martes.
Sunak fue secretario del Tesoro desde 2020 hasta julio de este año, cuando renunció en protesta contra el liderazgo de Boris Johnson.
