On this episode of Global National: For the third time in two months, the United Kingdom will soon have a new prime minister. And now, Boris Johnson — the man who was the prime minister just 47 days ago — has withdrawn from the nation's leadership race. But as Mike Drolet reports, there are still several contenders vying for the position.

In Canada, there's growing frustration from leaders in the prairies, who are pushing for sovereignty. Alberta's new Premier Danielle Smith has promised to keep the federal government out of provincial politics, and Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe said he'd follow suit. Nathaniel Dove looks at what message Saskatchewan's Speech from the Throne will likely send to the federal government.

Could we be seeing the beginnings of a worldwide polio resurgence? The World Health Organization is warning of a global resurgence of the virus. The U.S., U.K. and Israel have recently found traces of the disease in wastewater, and physicians are saying it's a matter of time before polio will also be found in Canada for the first time in decades. Jamie Mauracher reports.

In the U.S., hospitals in 33 states are facing a dramatic rise in children suffering from dangerous lung infections. Much of the country's pediatric rooms are now full of young patients afflicted with a respiratory virus called respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Some hospitals are so overwhelmed, they're sending children to other medical centres. Jennifer Johnson has more.

And even for a veteran diver with nearly 700 dives, it was the experience of a lifetime — an up close and personal visit with a curious octopus. Kylie Stanton has more on this marvellous sighting.
