RCMP update on investigation into deadly Saskatchewan stabbing spree | LIVE
CA, 07 Oct 2022
RCMP Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore is expected to provide an update on Thursday on the ongoing investigation into the James Smith Cree nation stabbing rampage over the Labour Day weekend, which left 10 people dead and 18 injured.
The main suspect in the stabbing spree Myles Sanderson died in police custody of a suspected drug overdose on Sept. 7 after a four-day manhunt.
His brother Damien Sanderson, the other suspect in the attack, was found dead on James Smith Cree nation on Sept. 5.
The Parole Board of Canada and Correctional Services Canada have launched an investigation into the decisions that led to the release of Myles Sanderson months before he became the prime suspect of the fatal stabbing spree in Saskatchewan.
The agencies said in a joint statement Thursday that the national joint board of investigations will “thoroughly analyze” the parole board’s actions and identify any recommendations or corrective measures.
