A malfunctioned missile hit land near a military base in Gangneung, South Korea on October 4, 2022, during a joint live-fire drill by South Korea and the United States in response to North Korea’s latest missile launch. The subsequent fireball and smoke triggered fears of an attack by its northern neighbour. The South Korean military confirmed the malfunction and said the warhead did not explode.
