As investors pay more attention to ESG factors in their decisions, it sounds as though it should be good news for sustainable development in poorer nations. But as the FT’s Simon Mundy explains, some approaches to ESG investment could actually restrict the flow of funds to developing countries, due to factors such as risk avoidance and a desire to examine data which may be hard to come by.
