CUPE members begin vote on tentative deal for Ontario education workers
CA, 25 Nov 2022
Members of Canadian Union of Public Employees' (CUPE) Ontario School Board Council of Unions, which represents about 55,000 education workers in Ontario, began to vote on the tentative deal reached with the provincial government last weekend.
A key part of the contract that was signed includes members not being penalized for the two days of walking off the job — a strike, or political protest as they had called it. The government has agreed not to dock anyone's pay or pursue any disciplinary action.
As Globa's Colin D'Mello explains, as members go to vote, there seems to be an internal push with CUPE to change minds and accept the offer.
