'Havoc' in DR Congo's Kivu region: 'Kinshana accuses Rwanda of backing the M23 rebellion'

FRANCE24, 24 Nov 2022
An agreement has been struck which could mean the adoption of a ceasefire in the violence-torn east of DR Congo as soon as late Friday, Angola's Foreign Minister Tete Antonio said Wednesday. DRC's President Felix Tshisekedi held talks with Rwandan Foreign Minister Vincent Biruta in Luanda on Wednesday, as tensions soared between the neighbours amid bloody militia violence on their border. The volatile eastern DRC has witnessed fierce fighting in recent months between Congolese troops and the M23 rebel group, prompting the East African Community (EAC) bloc to deploy a joint regional force to quell the violence. For more on the on-going conflict in eastern DR Congo, FRANCE 24 is joined by Richard Moncrieff, Interim Project Director for the Sahel at the International Crisis Group.
