More than 1,000 refugees have been rescued in the Mediterranean Sea.
The Italian coastguard says they were crammed into three overcrowded boats.
The rescue operation comes almost two weeks after at least 76 people died in a shipwreck off the Italian coast.
Italy’s government is under pressure to help stop lives being lost at sea.

Al Jazeera's Mmalegabe Motsepe reports.
