White House provides update on efforts to find out COVID origins #shorts
AP, 28 Feb 2023
John Kirby, National Security Council spokesman, said there's "not a consensus" on COVID's exact origins.
His comments come amid a classified intelligence report from the U.S. Department of Energy assessing with “low confidence” that COVID-19 began with a lab leak, according to someone familiar with the report who wasn’t authorized to discuss it.
“There is just not an intelligence community consensus," Kirby told reporters at the White House briefing Monday.
The Energy department's conclusion was first reported over the weekend in The Wall Street Journal, which said it was based on new intelligence and noted in an update to a 2021 document.
