Russia-Ukraine war: Trudeau speaks as world marks 1-year of conflict | LIVE

CA, 25 Feb 2023
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to hold a media availability on Friday as the world marks one year since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

On Friday, the government announced more than $32 million in security support for Ukraine, as G7 nations are readying a fresh round of sanctions on Russia. Roughly $9.7 million of the funding announced stems from Trudeau's $151.7-million support package announced in June 2022. $7.5 million will go towards demining efforts, $13 million for "accountability efforts" including addressing conflict-related sexual violence, and $12 million to counter chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats.

Earlier in the day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a televised address, saying Ukraine "will never rest until the Russian murderers face deserved punishment."

At a ceremony, he awarded medals to the fighters defending Ukraine against Russia's aggression and pledged victory for his country in 2023.
